Sci fi questionaire
1 – What is your name?
Jonica

2 – What fandoms do you follow?
Stargate (SG1 and Atlantis); Firefly; Dr Horrible; Supernatural; BSG

3 – How long have you been involved in fandom?
As a watcher, decades. Going to cons etc, about a year

4 – What lead you to your interest in the show? And what keeps you there?
My interest in all sci fi came from my dad, who made me watch sci fi with him as a kid. It was "our thing". We'd sit down to a bad B movie when my mom and sis went to bed :)
Since then I've been drawn to anything that challenges my mind with new ideas and interesting premises. What keeps me watching is good story lines and enjoyable characters.

These are very notable in BSG, so that is definitely what keeps me watching that, if you want a specific example. What drew me to it was the idea of the original series and wanting to see how they'd change it for a modern audience.

5 – Do you have skills which you share with fandom eg. Writing, drawing, painting, vidding etc.
The skills are more my partner's than mine but I co-author a webcomic (www.mookeo.com) and we often use sci fi references as inspiration and punch lines.

6 – First experience of fandom.
Going to Collectormania in 2008 to catch up with a friend who attends regularly. Loved getting my first glimps into that world.

7 – Best experience of fandom.
Meeting Jamie Bamber at Collectormania; he was really personable and nice, not at all what I would have expected celebrities at a con to be like.

8 – Experiences with other fans?
I have made some awesome friends through the one who initially introduced me to fandom and I hope to get more involved with the scene as soon as my schedule allows.

9 – What does being a fan mean to you?
It means a sense of belonging. Knowing that there are other people out there who like the things I do, that we have that in common. Having places to go to live out that side of my personality, having people to talk to about such things.

And it means cool tshirts, too.
